America as we know it has completely transformed. The US is ruled by a ruthless dictatorship. A genetic experiment gone wrong has made 90 percent of the newborn population male, making women a treasure that is fought over. In order to obtain that treasure and get married, a dangerous series of mind games and combat tests known as the Tournament must be won first. Allazar, a quiet twenty-year-old man living in the ruins of what used to be New York City, finds himself doing what he promised he would never do: fall in love. Upon meeting the angelic seventeen-year-old Ceirra, he finds himself instantly smitten with her, as she is with him. Allazar knows that no matter what, he must win a Tournament to marry her. Theres just one problem: as an omega (the lowest and discriminated social class in America), it is illegal for him to compete. And to make matters worse, Ceirra is in actuality the kings daughter. Allazar knows the consequences of illegally joining a Tournament just as he knows that most of the competitors that dont come out with a bride dont come out at all. In this romantic dystopian thriller, Allazar must fight not only to survive in a game that is already against him but for the rights of all those who were wronged by a corrupted, greedy, and bloodthirsty government.

Over the past couple of decades, management styles have evolved from strategic planning to total quality management to reengineering. Now in the newest and most cost effective trend to hit the boardrooms, there is a concentrated effort to view employment not as a perishible resource to be consumed but as a valuable commodity to be developed. While research shows that investments in capital result in higher returns to shareholders, the question is how should these investments be made, and how can returns on these investments be measured? DELIVERING ON THE PROMISE reveals Arthur Andersen's proprietry, technically based methodology - called The Five Square Approach - that will enable any manager to measure, manage and leverage human capital. Drawing on case-studies and research, this book is for any business manager who wants to evaluate and improve the current worth of their company's human resources.

It is a story about a young man, Saikou Camara, from West Africa, the Gambia, who persevered through some very difficult times in his early life to becoming one of the most influential young leaders of his generation. The author efficiently addressed multitudes of topics ranging from poverty in the African society, child labor, poor educational systems in Africa, brain drain, the dream of travelling abroad (by all means necessary), illegal migration, his experiences with race/racism, poor governance in Africa, and economic discrepancy. Critics described the literature as an inspirational bible for young people everywhere. We have all witnessed the glory and success of the author today, but this literature lead us into the author's continuous journey, struggles, and painful days of his life that he and many young Africans are facing today. The book is orderly and neatly written. Mr. Camara took his readers on a journey of his life encounters which were filled with obstacles, perseverance, and triumphs, which many young people can relate to. The message throughout the entire book was to follow your dreams and to never give up. This message is relevant to young people all over the world today, especially to young Africans. His message is that without perseverance, commitment, and consistency to your ideas, dreams, and, aspirations you will not succeed in your endeavors. The author never relented or despaired when the going got tough on him, he got tougher instead. Undergraduate research is a uniquely American invention. The ability to enter a laboratory and to embrace the unknown world, where a discovery is just around the corner, is a transformative experience. Undergraduate research, when done right, creates an authentic research project which changes the individual who is doing the research. Early introduction to authentic research captures student interest and encourages them to continue with their studies. The difficulty of undergraduate research is scale. To be truly authentic, and thus transformative, emerging scholars in the lab need to be guided by experts who clearly care for their junior collaborators. This apprenticeship model is time consuming, absolutely essential, and difficult to scale. To provide more authentic research experiences to students, dedicated teachers have developed the idea of course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). This book offers a comprehensive overview of how authentic, early research is a strategy for student success. Dr. Desmond Murray and his co-authors demonstrate the importance of early introduction to authentic research for all students, including those that are most likely to be left out during the normal sink-or-swim research university science curriculum.

College and university faculty find themselves tasked with teaching in the face of ever-changing trends in higher education and constant shifts in the student population. Educators must balance student engagement and retention with their learning and satisfaction in a never-ending cycle of changes in technology, the economy, and the political climate. Even when certain pedagogies or classroom techniques are shown to be beneficial in one discipline, individual faculty may find it challenging to apply them in their own classrooms. This is certainly true in chemistry. Many faculty in chemistry today struggle to embrace research-based educational practices, even those coming out of our own discipline. Graduate programs in chemical education, recent reports on discipline-based education research (1), and an increase in the scholarship of teaching and learning in chemistry indicate a desire among many faculty to change-to reach students in new and exciting ways or to change curricula to better meet students' needs. Faculty are looking for things that work-techniques used by chemists, for chemists. This volume contributes to this on-going conversation. The scholarship presented within this volume is organized in three sections. The first explores innovations found to enhance the learning of typical students as well as those who may be under-prepared. Authors describe their experiences using the flipped classroom and institutional readiness models. The second section provides examples of how technology may be utilized in the chemistry classroom-from e-textbook usage to a computational chemistry program to concrete suggestions for teaching chemistry online. The final section addresses broader issues in chemistry. One chapter demonstrates how to incorporate High-Impact Educational Practices (2) into courses for chemistry majors and nonmajors. A final chapter describes how colleges can adopt the Green Chemistry Commitment. Additionally, contextual information for pedagogical change may be found in the Introduction as well as helpful tips for adopting new approaches.
