They're spots... spots that speak, think, judge, talk about everything and nothing... Depressive spots, euphoric spots, racist spots, swinger spots, spots that change their hue while remaining resolutely off-color. Manu Larcenet brings to life a large family of spots in a series of biting, caustic, hilarious strips.

It all starts in a school playground, and then it moves to a classroom, where Larcenet's superb graphic camera zooms in on two ten-year-old kids: Gildas and Martina. The pair of them are ever so slightly obsessed with Sci-fi. To the extent they think they're surrounded by robots and aliens. As far as they're concerned, their entire world is made up of false appearances, and they're soon to be the victims of a huge intergalactic plot! You read, you smile, you snigger. But then suddenly, it's all turned on its head...

Hans Sloane was the greatest collector of his time, and one of the greatest of all time. His name is familiar today through the London streets and squares named after him, but the man himself, and his achievements, are almost forgotten. Born in the north of Ireland, Sloane made his fortune as a physician to London's wealthiest residents. In 1687 he travelled to Jamaica, then at the heart of Britain's commercial empire, to survey its natural history, and later organised a network of correspondents who sent him curiosities from across the world. He became one of the eighteenth century's preeminent natural historians and assembled an astonishing collection of specimens, artefacts and oddities - the most famous curiosity cabinet of the age. Shortly after his death, Sloane's vast collection was then acquired - as he had hoped - by the nation. It became the nucleus of the world's first national public museum, the British Museum. This is the first biography of Sloane in over sixty years and the first based on his surviving collections. Early modern science and collecting are shown to be global endeavours intertwined with empire and slavery but which nonetheless produced one of the great public institutions of the Enlightenment, as the cabinet of curiosities gave way to the encyclopaedic museum. Collecting the Worlddescribes this pivotal moment in the emergence of modern knowledge, and brings this totemic figure back to life.

In their wide-ranging interpretation of the religion of ancient Egypt, Francoise Dunand and Christiane Zivie-Coche explore how, over a period of roughly 3500 years, the Egyptians conceptualized their relations with the gods. Drawing on the insights of anthropology, the authors discuss such topics as the identities, images, and functions of the gods; rituals and liturgies; personal forms of piety expressing humanity's need to establish a direct relation with the divine; and the afterlife, a central feature of Egyptian religion. That religion, the authors assert, was characterized by the remarkable continuity of its ritual practices and the ideas of which they were an expression. Throughout, Dunand and Zivie-Coche take advantage of the most recent archaeological discoveries and scholarship. Gods and Men in Egypt is unique in its coverage of Egyptian religious expression in the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. Written with nonspecialist readers in mind, it is largely concerned with the continuation of Egypt's traditional religion in these periods, but it also includes fascinating accounts of Judaism in Egypt and the appearance and spread of Christianity there.

The author looks back--or rather, flashes back to childhood, fears, complexes, mistakes.. everything that makes up a life. In his first book published by Les Rêveurs, Manu Larcenet experiments with autobiography, a new genre, a graphic narrative experience which ultimately gives birth to a story that's neither harsh nor tender, just sincere.
