How can you build a fulfilling, profitable business, while travelling the world at the same time? How can you win back your freedom, banish "Sunday evening blues" for the rest of your life, and travel permanently rather than just for two weeks a year? Be a Digital Nomad contains the lessons we learnt in the year in which we quit our jobs, lived in 23 homes on three continents, and built a business that now makes more than double what we made as employees. It's not a step-by-step guide or a blueprint to follow. It's actually a collection of blog posts that you can get for free at - only buy this book for the convenience of having everything neatly categorised into relevant topics and delivered to your Kindle or your door. Over the course of 51,000 words, you'll learn: Why building a business to be proud of while travelling the world is (almost) guaranteed to make you happier than you've ever been Our formula for easily coming up with winning business ideas (plus some ideas of our own that you're free to steal) How to harness travel to make you more creative and more profitable Some simple methods for dealing with the boring bureaucracy of travel and work Our step-by-step guide to making money online WARNING: This book isn't about shortcuts to making a quick buck. It's about putting in the work to build a profitable business that you'll love and be proud of. If you love to moan about your job but would rather put up with it than do anything about it, this book isn't for you. People are busting out of static residential living and boring corporate serfdom and embracing a new life of freedom, beauty, adventure and joy. The movement is the gastronomad lifestyle - endless travel out of love for food and culture. Instead of living in one place, then becoming an occasional tourist on vacation (where you're on the outside looking in), gastronomads become "temporary locals" wherever they go, immersing themselves in community and culture. But how? The secret is to travel and work at the same time! It's a world of endless possibilities. The gig economy, the sharing economy, the app economy and crowdsourced content - as well as ubiquitous internet and powerful mobile devices - enable almost anyone to live almost anywhere and still build a thriving, exciting and rewarding career. Journalist Mike Elgan has been living and writing about the gastronomad lifestyle for a decade, and shares all his secrets in this surprising book, including how to: pivot your career to become location independent grow your income and shrink your cost of living downsize to a small "home base" and spend half your rent abroad find dream locations to live in explore the world's most amazing food cultures create a new life that brings you joy Going gastronomad is much more than embracing a way of life. It's a state of mind. Whether you're just thinking about traveling more - not as a tourist but as an intentional traveler - or want to quit your job, sell your home and spend the rest of your life exploring the world, this book will transform how you think about travel, food and life itself!

The end of retirement? From the beet fields of North Dakota to the National Forest campgrounds of California to Amazon’s CamperForce program in Texas, employers have discovered a new, low-cost labor pool, made up largely of transient older Americans. Finding that social security comes up short, often underwater on mortgages, these invisible casualties of the Great Recession have taken to the road by the tens of thousands in late-model RVs, travel trailers, and vans, forming a growing community of nomads: migrant laborers who call themselves “workampers.” On frequently traveled routes between seasonal jobs, Jessica Bruder meets people from all walks of life: a former professor, a McDonald’s vice president, a minister, a college administrator, and a motorcycle cop, among many others—including her irrepressible protagonist, a onetime cocktail waitress, Home Depot clerk, and general contractor named Linda May. In a secondhand vehicle she christens “Van Halen,” Bruder hits the road to get to know her subjects more intimately. Accompanying Linda May and others from campground toilet cleaning to warehouse product scanning to desert reunions, then moving on to the dangerous work of beet harvesting, Bruder tells a compelling, eye-opening tale of the dark underbelly of the American economy—one that foreshadows the precarious future that may await many more of us. At the same time, she celebrates the exceptional resilience and creativity of these quintessential Americans who have given up ordinary rootedness to survive. Like Linda May, who dreams of finding land on which to build her own sustainable “Earthship” home, they have not given up hope.

Man has always been a nomad, a restless spirit or a free-spirited species. In very early times, we moved from place to place, from continent to continent, tracking the stars, crossing huge rivers, and following the seasons in our efforts to survive. Before the advent of modern civilization as we know it, it was common for man to travel great swathes of lands and territories. But they didn’t remain like that forever, the free-spirited nomadic men; they began to change their orientation. They began to try to find ways to stay in a place longer than usual. They had an urge to own lands, to build a connection to the lands. There was a plea for stability and so any semblance to a regular life, one that does not involve old moving habits, is embraced by us. We continue to bury our nomadic essence deeper into our core. We spend a lot of our time, energy, and money paying for a lot of things in our possession already. The all too popular culture of getting it now and paying later has been a resonant motto for most men. This exemplifies the way we see the world and our current approach to survival. This speaks to the state of our complacency and our inability to remove ourselves from our self-inflicted burdens of excruciating debts and our monotonous 9-5 daily obligations. But not everyone wants to live this way, and some of us cannot bear to remain in this endless loop. There is the urgent need to break free of what seems a very strong shackle. They want to live their lives according to the dictates of their passion, allowing their inner nomad self outside. It is about having a newfound freedom, working with no boundaries or borders. The ability to finally live and work from any workstation in the world. It is called being a digital nomad.
